Philipines Gov.f Lawyer ready to express Arroyo Case

MANILA, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine government lawyers will handle the electoral case against former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to ensure that justice will be done, a senior government official said on Saturday.
"Our OSG (Office of the Solicitor General) will certainly do its best in all the cases that it represents government on," Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a radio interview over government-run dzRB Radyo ng Bayan.
"On the part of government, we will certainly be on the ball on making sure that this case -- in doing everything that we can to make sure that there is no delay on the part of the prosecution, " she added.
Valte said the Office of the Solicitor General will do everything for the successful prosecution of Arroyo amid fears that government lawyers will be no match against such lawyers as Estelito Mendoza and Jose Flaminiano, who are the counsels of the Arroyos.
Issues were also raised about the competency of Pasay City Regional Trial Court Judge Jesus Mupas, the judge to try the former leader, as he has been previously sanctioned by the Supreme Court for delaying the cases he was handling.
Valte said they hope that Mupas has learned his lessons with regards to the Supreme Court sanction believing that he will handle the Arroyo case very well.

Former Philippine president Election fraud as she fights for right to leave Country

Former Philippine president Election fraud as she fights for right to leave Country

In a legal victory for Arroyo, the Supreme Court upheld her right to travel, at least temporarily, until a lower court delivers a new ruling on whether she can leave the country now that formal charges have been filed.
The Supreme Court decision could set the stage for a possible second airport showdown this week, with Arroyo’s aides saying she could board a plane out of Manila later Friday and the government adamant to stop her.
In a drama that has galvanized the Philippines, Arroyo tried to leave the country Tuesday with her husband, saying she needed the expertise of foreign medical facilities. But she was stopped at the Manila airport by authorities who said she was still under investigation, and that she might become a fugitive.
The election fraud charges, which carry a penalty of 40 years imprisonment, were filed Friday by the Commission on Election at the Pasay Regional Trial Court in Manila.
Judge Jesus Mupas will now decide whether to issue an arrest warrant, said Elections Commission Chairman Sixto Brillantes. He said he also asked for a court order barring Arroyo’s travel.
Arroyo has denied any wrongdoing, and her legal spokesman Raul Lambino said Friday the case against her has been fabricated.
“This is a high form of injustice,” Lambino said.
Arroyo lawyer Ferdinand Topacio deplored the “indecent haste” and criticized what he said was the government’s “emerging pattern of persecution.”
The Supreme Court last week granted Arroyo a temporary clearance to travel, but the government still refused to let her go, with Justice Secretary Leila de Lima saying she may be seeking political asylum abroad.
In the fast-moving legal drama, the Supreme Court on Friday rejected the government’s travel ban on Arroyo that was issued before the formal charges were filed. Court spokesman Midas Marquez said that Arroyo and her husband were free to leave until another court rules otherwise.
The charges stem from allegations that Arroyo conspired with officials to tamper with results of 2007 congressional polls to favor her candidates.
Now that charges have been filed, Arroyo likely faces arrest, Sen. Francis Escudero said.
Arroyo was recovering in the hospital since her failed attempt to leave the country Tuesday, and it was doubtful she would be immediately hauled to jail even if the arrest warrant was issued.
After stepping down last year, Arroyo, 64, was elected to the House of Representatives and immediately faced at least half a dozen complaints, also alleging she diverted state funds for her campaign effort and benefited from foreign contracts.
The Justice Department is still investigating the other complaints.
Her successor and staunch critic, President Benigno Aquino III, was overwhelmingly elected on promises to rid the Philippines of corruption and has said he wants to start with Arroyo.
Arroyo would be the second Philippine president to face trial, after her predecessor, Joseph Estrada, was toppled in a 2001 military-backed revolt on corruption charges and sentenced to life. He was later pardoned by Arroyo  READ MORE

Amanda Coling Coolest not Hot Photo
Hot on the heels of the Azkals' victory against Sri Lanka last July 3 was a rumor portraying four of the national football members as "rapists."

Initially, blogs and tabloids claimed the existence of this "sex video scandal" involving Neil Etheridge, Simon Greatwich, Jason Sabio, and Anton del Rosario.

The video never surfaced.

But come July 9, the rumor became a report claiming that what happened was rape.

An unconfirmed email sent by a Paul Weiler, who introduced himself as a former consultant of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF), was forwarded to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal).

Weiler labeled the incident as "rape."

A portion of his email read, "I can not live w/ the hard facts that players raped a young Manila woman and that it will be 'okay' for everybody..."

MAJOR CLARIFICATION RE: THE INCIDENT. Two sources, who are friends with the team, categorically denied the "rape" allegations.

The first source, who narrated what he knew to PEP but refused to go on record, became firm in saying, "Of course, it was not true."

He added that the story got so heavily laden with exaggerations. "Una, threesome, 'tapos naging foursome, 'tapos naging rape."

ALL SET FOR KUWAIT. While this tittle-tattle is ongoing, the Azkals are focused on their upcoming match against Kuwait on July 23.

Dan Palami, the team's manager, considers these rumors "unfortunate and unnecessary distractions."

In a phone conversation with PEP yesterday, July 13, he said, "It will be very unfair to act based on the Internet and the claims of a certain German national [referring to Paul Weiler]."

He reiterated, "The person [again, referring to Weiler] who's been talking to media is not in any way related to the team. He's not."

They're leaving for Bahrain, where the football players will train, before flying to Kuwait.

In a text message sent today, July 14, he told PEP that his next move will happen after the investigation.

"It is unfortunate that as we prepare for one of the most important matches, issues that are based on sources that have been proven to be non-credible are being used to malign several members of the team.

"As manager, I will never tolerate actions such as those being alleged, and would certainly take disciplinary action on erring players.

"However, I need more than an internet blog, and a statement of a purported PFF [Philippine Football Federation] Consultant that has been officially disowned by the PFF itself, before i can take action."

Lastly, he's hoping that while the Azkals are out of the country defending the Philippines, the controversy will take a back seat.
(CLICK HERE to read related article).

Ayon sa kanya, "What happened here is that... Well, yesterday [July 13], I was already told by someone from the magazine that I was being pulled out from the show today.

"So, what I did was I still came here today to insist to still be in the show.

"Kasi, wala naman akong kasalanan, wala akong ginagawa. Wala naman akong issue na ginagawa.

"So, I still came here today at nag-rehearse pa ako nung umaga."

Dagdag pa niya, "GMA-7 was able to record it na I was rehearsing for the show, two people talked to me again and told me that they really have to pull me out from the show."

"I still need to talk to my lawyer about that," sabi niya.

"I feel I am being harassed. I mean, why is my job being taken away from me? This is my job," saad niya.

"You tell me, do you think it has something to do with the Azkals? Would you be here interviewing me if my name was not being linked to the Azkals?" balik-tanong niya.

"You know, I really have to ask my lawyer before I say anything. So for now, no comment muna," sabi niya.
