Andy Rooney Complete Biography RIP

Andy Rooney Complete Biography RIP
Broadcasting legend and 60 Minutes fixture Andy Rooney died Friday night in a hospital in New York City. Rooney had only made his final sign-off as a weekly commentator on the CBS show just over a month ago, and was reportedly in stable condition following complications from minor surgery last week. Rooney’s final essay for 60 Minutes was a classic example of his trademark blend of clarity, humility and gracious wit. He concluded his last essay by giving thanks to those who had reached out to him over the years:
Andrew Rooney was born in Albany, New York, the son of Walter Scott Rooney (1888–1959) and Ellinor (née Reynolds) Rooney (1886–1980). He attended The Albany Academy,[2] and later attended Colgate University in Hamilton in Central New York,[3] where he was initiated into the Sigma Chi fraternity, until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in August 1941. Rooney began his career in newspapers while in the Army when, in 1942, he began writing for Stars and Stripes in London during World War II.[4] In February 1943, flying with the Eighth Air Force, he was one of six correspondents who flew on the second American bombing raid over Germany.[5] Later, he was one of the first American journalists to visit the Nazi concentration camps near the end of World War II, and one of the first to write about them. During a segment on Tom Brokaw's The Greatest Generation, Rooney confessed that he had been opposed to World War II because he was a pacifist. He recounted that what he saw in those concentration camps made him ashamed that he had opposed the war and permanently changed his opinions about whether "just wars" exist. In London, during the war, Mary Hemingway made an accusation of plagiarism against several fellow journalists, including Andy Rooney, although the accusations were proven false.[6] Rooney's 1995 memoir, My War,[5] chronicles his war reporting. In addition to recounting firsthand several notable historical events and people (including the entry into Paris and the Nazi concentration camps), Rooney describes how it shaped his experience both as a writer and reporter.(Wikipedia)

Anthony Weiner contact with 17-year-old: Will it sink his career? Doomsday for Him?

Delaware police said Friday they were investigating the reported communications, had interviewed the teen, and that "she has made no disclosure of criminal activity nor inappropriate contact by the Congressman."

The larger message, in this latest round of news, may be simply that Weiner's efforts to hold onto his job now hinge partly on what emerges in a continuing "drip, drip" of evidence from his online activities and from others involved in those communications.

The congressman, while apologizing for both his online behavior and for lying about it initially, has said he has broken no laws and intends to remain in office.
Rep. Anthony Weiner's efforts to hold onto his job hinge on what emerges in a continuing drip, drip of evidence from his online 'sexting' activities. Many of his constituents say he should resign.

Congressman Anthony Weiner, D-NY again said Thursday he would not resign, after his Monday admission to sending a photo of his bulging crotch in underwear to his 45,000 Twitter followers and then lying about it for more than a week.
Anthony admitted he "betrayed a lot of people" including his constituents and family.
"I was completely honest on Monday after I hadn't been for a while," Weiner said while visiting his lawyer's office in Midtown Manhattan.
Weiner, 46, is fighting for his political life as Congressional leaders have isolated him, with Republicans calling for his ouster. Democrats had held fire since the Monday's. However on Wednesday Rep. Allyson Schwartz, D-PA became the first Democrat to call for his ouster.......http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/160344/20110609/anthony-weiner-resignation-scandal-sexting.htm
